Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was an English-born American novelist and playwright. Best known for The Secret Garden and A Little Princess, she also wrote an extensive body of adult fiction shaped by her transatlantic life, financial independence, and interest in houses, gardens, class, and social change.
